In 1961 an agreement was signed with India and a factory was setup in Avadi, near Madaras in India to produce the Mark 1 Vickers MBT as the Vijayanta, which means victory tank. This resulted in the first one rolling of the line in 1969. The Vijayanta, which was first inducted in the 1970s, has now considerably aged. It has limited cross- country mobility, is prone to overheating in the desert and carries the 105 mm gun.

Variants:
A Vijayanta-130 was built installing a much improved 130mm canon.

After the 1967 conflict Israel experienced that mobility was no substitute for armour protection. It therefore concentrated on local arms production and went into designing the Merkava main battle tank. The first tank rolled off the production plant and was fitted in the Israeli 7 th Armoured Brigade in 1979. The tank's hull is built of a layers; the steel layer is fitted with a layer of diesel in the middle, this gives protection from HEAT projectiles and ATGWs. Further more the low silhouette gives it a low visibility. Overall this tank was very advanced for its time.

The Italian Army took delivery of its first Ariete main battle tank in December 1995. Ariete has a crew of four, a combat weight of 52 tonnes, a maximum speed of 65 km/h, a 550 km range and is able to surmount 60% gradients.
